Jul 28, 2010 16:25 ETTORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – July 28, 2010) – Oticon Canada, one of the world’s most innovative hearing aid manufacturer’s has partnered with the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Newfoundland and Labrador (CHHA NL) Family Resource Group to support parents and families of children with hearing loss

Families of children with hearing loss often face many difficult challenges, and Oticon is dedicated to supporting them. For every Oticon hearing aid fit by hospital based audiologists in Newfoundland and Labrador between August 2009 and May 2010, a donation was made to the CHHA NL Family Resource Group, a group that provides support and encouragement to the families of children with hearing loss. These donations helped the CHHA NL Family Resource Group to send 10 families, to the A.G. Bell Conference in Orlando, Florida in June 2010.

According to Quenton Currie, Business Development Manager for Oticon Canada, a trip to the A.G. Bell conference can have a profound effect on the families. “In the past, NL families who’ve attended the conference have brought back fresh ideas and renewed determination to our little corner of the world, resulting in improved services and support for children with hearing loss.”

Myrtle Barrett, President of CHHA NL, commends the CHHA NL Family Resource Group for the work they are undertaking in reaching out to the families of hard of hearing children in this Province; they work very hard to support the vision of this association. Barrett states “This partnership with Oticon and the dedication of Quenton Currie to make it happen is an inspiring example of what can be achieved through partnerships.”

Organized by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the conference was attended by more than 1,500 participants from 20 countries. At the conference, participants had the opportunity to participate in educational sessions and seminars, as well as meet and connect with other families with children with hearing loss.
