Professor Levine will explain why Jews should read the New Testament and how
Jews and Christians read Scripture differently, so please join us:

WHAT: A talk by Professor Amy-Jill Levine, followed by a book signing
WHEN: 7:00 PM — 8:30 PM on Sunday, May 13th
WHERE: Town & Village (T&V) Synagogue (www.tandv.org), 334 East 14th Street,
between 1st and 2nd Avenues in Manhattan
COST: The presentation is free, and books will be available for purchase at a
discount.

ASL interpretation will be made available if requested by May 1.  To do so,

This event is co-hosted by members of the Local Faith Communities and the
Downtown Kehillah (a collection of Synagogues, including T&V, in Lower
Manhattan)

About the Author

Amy-Jill Levine is University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies,
E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies, and
Professor of Jewish Studies at the Divinity School, College of Arts and
Science, Graduate Department of Religion, and Program in Jewish Studies at
Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  She is also Affiliated Professor,
Centre for the study of Jewish-Christian Relations, Cambridge, UK.  She holds
a B.A. from Smith College and a M.A. and a Ph.D. from Duke University.  A
prolific author, an internationally sought-after leturer and as elf-described
Yankee Jewish feminist, Professor Levine is a member of Congregation Sherith
Israel, an Orthodox Synagogue, although she is often quite unorthodox.

(Please note: The “Introduction to ASL & Deaf Culture” Workshop that we
offered in February WILL indeed prove helpful to those who took it, but it is
NOT required before taking ASL 1…so, if you missed that workshop, you still
CAN register for ASL 1!)

WHAT: A 6-session American Sign Language (ASL) 1 “Mini-Course”
WHEN: 7:30 PM — 9:00 PM on each of the following dates:

* Monday, May 21st
* Tuesday, May 29th
* Sunday, June 10th
* Monday, June 18th
* Monday, June 25th
